What To Know About Neptune in Aries

In Astrology Neptune is the generational Planet of idealisation, illusion, gullibility, fantasy, imagination, escapism, deception, enmeshment, empathy, creativity, glamour, and spirituality.

It spends roughly 14 years in each of the Zodiac Signs, completing a cycle in 165 years. Therefore it only transits up to about half of our Natal Chart in our lifetimes, so no one alive has ever seen it in the current Sign it is in before! The last time Neptune was in Aries was between 1861 and 1875 (during the American Civil War, and the Unifications of Italy and Germany).

This means that we can only speculate about what a Neptune transit will be like based on data from its previous transits throughout history, combined with its general significations and those of the Sign it is transiting of course.

It will enter Aries for the first time briefly from 30th March 2025 - October 22nd 2025, and then again from January 26th 2026 - May 21st 2038 for its full stint, and finally from October 21st 2038 - 23rd March 2039 for a last wrap-up.

(The fact that it enters the day after a Solar Eclipse in Aries, which is a New Moon near the Nodes, also feels particularly charged).

Aries is a Diurnal, Cardinal Fire Sign. Diurnal Signs (Fire + Air) are more active and outward-facing. Cardinal Signs come at the beginning of the seasons, thus are seen as the leaders and initiators of change. Fire Signs are generative with a lot of passion to spare!

Archetypal Aries is bold and self-assured, confident in its right to take up space— just like the baby. Aries embodies this youthful energy, never seeming to age, always holding onto a childike spirit, its fire comes from a bottomless pit. It can also be impatient, it wants what it wants yesterday! There’s no time for waiting, things must get done fast.

Combined, Neptune in Aries can either look like a dissolution of hyper-individualisation, OR the idealisation of it! The brilliant Austin Coppock also says that it can look like the idealisation of the warrior (or spiritual warfare?). Let’s hope it brings a spiritual component to leadership, rather than a web of lies, smoke, and mirrors…

Neptune Characteristics

Neptune is porous like a sponge, easily absorbing energy from people and places around it. It seeks to ease the suffering of the world and return to Universal Oneness. It is ethereal and not of this world. In this, it can get overwhelmed or lead to victim mentality, martyrdom, or puritanical ideals.

This is the magic of cinema, when we need a break from reality. It is the capacity to create art and music. It is the wisdom of spirituality and intuition, hard to define— beyond language. Ultimately, it is empathetic, elusive, and dissolving. Its allure can be intoxicating, but user beware.

Mythologically, it is ascribed to Poseidon, God of the Sea. Neptune transits can feel similarly subtle like rising tide— hard to discern whilst it’s happening, until your sandcastle crumbles.

Neptune Transits

Where Neptune transits collectively can speak to what we pedestalise in society. During its previous transit, through Pisces, it’s pretty obvious that this has aligned with the rise of the mystic! Since its first entry in 2011/2012, the popularity of spirituality has seen a boom. This includes modalities such as Tarot, Astrology, and witchcraft, as well as psychedelic drugs (I also love that this coincided with the ugly shoe trend, and Pisces rules feet. This is also when Jupiterian boho returned. It also feels very Euphoria-esque to me).

When Neptune was in Aquarius before that we had Y2K silver-alien millennial vibes. Before that was the Capricornian minimalism of the ‘90s. Before that was the extravagance of ‘80s Sagittarius (and Jupiterian capitalism) and bohemian ‘70s. Then the Scorpionic sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll of the ‘60s; the “perfect” Libran relationship of the ‘50s; with the practical Virgoan utilitarian style of the ‘40s (Neptune’s transits don’t neatly fit into one decade and there are overlapping transits going on of course but I think it’s visible in the zeitgeist).

Personally, when Neptune transits an area of our Chart (a House), or contacts a personal placement (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, AC/MC, and Ascendant ruler), we can experience this heightened sense of sensitivity and compassion in this area, as well as a sense of dissolution. Neptune transits are like a fog, it is hard to see through its mists. We can also easily look through rose-tinted glasses or have a sense of general confusion here.

Neptune can also be passive, causing a desire to be “saved”. While on the one had it can increase our intuition and capacity for receptivity (going with the flow, syncing into signs from the Universe etc.), it can also bring a lack of drive.

If Neptune contacts one of our personal birth chart placements (which takes about 2 years to complete) during this process, it can similarly bring its signature creativity and spiritual connection, as well as a dissolving or demoralising effect, like trying to swim through quicksand. With nebulous Neptune the key is to feel our way through, whilst simply waiting for the clouds to part. When it passes, it can feel like waking from a dream…

However, if it is not making contact with any personal placements, as it is so slow, and therefore generational, it can become more of a background noise or a certain colour tinge when we look back over this period. Sometimes, because it is slippery and hard to pin down, what its transits indicate can become more apparent in hindsight once it has left an area and clarity has returned there.

Either way, boundaries and discernment are absolutely key! It can be useful to get trusted external advice in these areas as well. If it is transiting your 1st House, for example (all Aries Risings currently), it can be useful to allow for both mindful disassociation (such as through music, art, dance, daydreaming, or fantasy novels, rather than unconscious zoning out through social media, sex, substances, shopping, gaming etc.) and exploration of your spirituality; AND frequent grounding, embodiment practices. Don’t abandon your body or let yourself get too swayed by others! And stay rooted in reality!

Characteristics of Aries

Archetypal Aries is the pioneer and warrior of the Zodiac, kicking off the whole Astrological year, it’s quick out the gate. This is the energy of birth, of life in motion, of impulsive instinct— act first, think later. Both leader and fighter, this is the type of person you would want in an emergency.

Its traditional ruling Planet is fiery Mars, the hot malefic Planet of competition, severance, and defence. Mars is scolding and protecting, it aggravates and also brings energy to persevere and achieve its goals. This duo gets sh*t done.

Its ruling body part is the head, seat of the ego and identity (also “head of state” aka the leader). Aries is The Self. Its symbol is the ram, literally ramming ahead head first. Themes of speed, individuality, independence, war, and even redheads may become more prominent over the next 14 years.

During this transit, as its ruler, wherever Mars is will also dictate the flavour of Neptune in Aries. This will make it more mutable and varied than the previous Neptune transits as Mars moves through a Sign every couple of months. Jupiter (the ruler while it was in Pisces before) spends a year in a Sign, whereas Capricorn and Aquarius (where it was in the two Sign before that) are ruled by Saturn which spends 2.5 years per Sign!
